If Lucius didn't pause after handing over his wand to Voldie, i'm sure he would have been ridiculed for 'handing over his wand' so easily... given that all wizards need their wands...

Also, Lucius wasn't a favourite of Voldie - any opportunity to make a cheap comment at the Malfoy's expense.... Voldie had a go at Draco etc

we need to remember that the wand chooses the wizard. it is so hard to find just the right one. so to go to ollivander and find 3, just incase they all happen to be fighting dark wizards would be ridiculous.
PLUS the point is to beat your opponent and win their wand in a battle, otherwise borrow one...
this situation would be unlike for most wizards.. we happen to know the only ones would ever be in this situation

It's funny that I hadn't thought of what a precarious (although it had been hinted at in other books) place the Malfoys were in within the dark wizardry world.

Lucious really put on a show, but it was really a show.
