Default Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Epilogue: The next generation (spoiler)

What did you think about the Epilogue: Nineteen Years Later?

It was a nice family portrayal. Full of hope and hints of mischief. It was the send-off to Hogwarts that Harry always wanted from his own parents, had they been alive.

Seeing the adventures begin for little Al, as he heads off to Hogwarts and gets Sorted. (Apparently the Sorting Hat survived and wasn't completely burned after Neville pulled the sword out of the hat.) It's of course at the sentimental King's Cross Platform 9 3/4. Meeting up with their best friends and cousins.

However, I wish it had been edited better. Of all the chapters, I had to re-read sentences to figure out references, why the kids were whining, who was standing where, etc. It seemed rushed almost and empty. Giving us what we wanted at a surface level, when I'd felt so much more for the characters. It was better than a, "Happily Ever After," or "riding off into the sunset," but it seemed packed with a list of things that had to get mentioned in a hurried way. I wanted more

Why wasn't Teddy Lupin living with Harry, his godfather, already? Tonks and Lupin were dead for 19 years. Why at 19 is he just going to live with the Potters? Was Teddy's grandmother alive this whole time and that's where he was? Was Rowling protecting 17 yr old Harry from being responsible for a baby?

List of interesting tid bits:
Harry & Ginny's children: James (age?); Albus Severus (11); Lily (9)
Ron & Hermoine's children: Rose (11); Hugo (?)
Bill and Fleur have a daughter named Victoire, who is seen with Teddy.
Draco has a wife and son, whose name is Scorpius.
Neville is a Professor of Herbology
Percy has something to do with organizing at Hogwarts
Ron finally got his car.

What else?

I didn't understand that either. You're right, he should have been with Harry.

We don't know for certain that Victoire is Bill and Fleur's daughter.
We just here Percy talking about broomstick regulations if I remember right, but I guess if he's on the patform, he might be working there I don't know.

Teddy would have stayed with his living blood relative and only gone to Harry should his grandmother pass away before he was of age or if Teddy chose to go live with Harry instead !

I was wondering what Harry would have done with a baby!

You're right. Unclaimed child. She could be Ron and Hermoine's, Charlie's, Percy's, or maybe George's. Guess she could even be one of the Weasley boys and Gabrielle's too, although Gabrielle was younger than Ginny so I doubt that age makes sense.

James is the one who says, "our cousin". I assumed Fleur's daughter because it is the feminine form of french word for "victory" and also name of a Princess.

I had to reread several early parts -- so I agree on the editing. The one that really stands out is the one with the 7 Harrys. But I had to reread other parts as well. Again, I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

I just assumed that Teddy had stayed with Tonks mother.

I was confused as to Percy's role at Hogwarts. I don't remember there ever being a Hogwarts's employee on the train at the platform end before.

Well, there have been professors on the train before, so she might have been alluding to that. For example, Lupin and Slughorn. Didn't seem too far of a stretch to me. Or, he could have been loading one of his own children on the train and just being bossy. If that were the case though, I think someone would have commented.

Far reach, but I wondered if Jo was wanting us to think of Professor McGonagall, as she taught the kids how to use their brooms. I'll have to re-read Year 1 and go to the scene where they learned to fly and see if any references.

Here's another -- I guess Harry never became an Auror, based on the comment that, "I've had enough trouble for a lifetime" . We just know he grew up to be a dad, which brought the story full circle, but as Harry continually talked about wanting to be an Auror that just seemed odd.

The epilogue, to me, was her leaving her foot in the door - the youngest son, with all his angst... if she ever goes back, it will be to him. The one with Lily's eyes.

I had forgotten or hadn't made that connection because they were quieter in the taking off

Madam Hooch (spell?) taught them. When Neville was injured, she took him to Madam Pomphrey and McGonagall just happened to be looking out the window.
