Default (Spoiler) I'm mad at JKR.

Yes, the book was well-written and highly entertaining.

But I still feel that glorifying suicide in a children's
book is irresponsible and unacceptable.

How did she glorify suicide? WHO took their own life?

yes but only because he was bound by a life debt to harry he didnt intentionally kill himself we always knew there would be alot of deaths in this book and the possibility of people sacraficing themselves for "the greater good"

She means Dumbledore. I don't know that I would look at it as suicide though.

I'm mad at JKR too, but for other reasons.

Wormtail didn't kill himself - the hand Voldemort put on him killed him - thus, as I see it, Voldemort killed him. Probably some kind of spell on the silver hand.

Dumbledore really did kill himslef, by putting on the ring, but that was an accident, not suicide. As for having Snape finish him off, that is definitely for the greater good - it protected Snape & yes, even nasty Malfoy, from Voldemor, and Dumbledore was on the verge of death anyway.

No evidence that she is glorifying suicide.

harry didnt commit suicide by standing defenseless infront of voldemort.
if anything he was committing murder, he knew a piece of voldemort would die when trying to kill him, and that one of his friends would kill nagini and finally finish him.
if we were to take a moral stand and say that the book glorifies certain terrible acts.. it would be worse i would think to condone murder - in every other book basically, and worse still - torture; which is evidentally what most curses do.

and dumbeldore as i see it risked his life to save many others. by allowing/telling snape to kill him, he was saving malfoy - from trying and failing a killing curse, saving snape from being thought of as a traitor to voldemort and his dying wish was to help harry, which would in turn save the lives of many many more.

and wormtails hand was given to him by voldemort, after he had cut off his own to allow voldemort to reform his body, but voldemort had yelled at him for returning to him purely of fear, so when he gave him back a hand (which he could have easily made normal human flesh) he instead chose a silver hand - obviously riddled with a curse which would bind him eternally loyal to voldemort
and in the end, he gives into his guilt and sets harry free.

Again I agree with Aberforth. I'm angry with her because I feel cheated. I felt the story was rushed and sometimes it felt like J.K had boxed herself in and had to quickly change direction to get back on track. What I'm saying is, that to me it didn't feel like she had been planning this for 17 years. I never thought I'd say this kind of thing about her, but for me, this was nothin like her usual style.
As for glorifying suicide, I personally don't think this was the case. I didn't see anywhere in the book that said, suicide is the option. Maybe, dying to save the people you love. But that is, for me, very different to suicide.

I do think that in war time, the rules are different -- as with AD giving his life early for the cause. I hadn't thought about the hand taking Wormtail in this manner, but I really need to go back and read again.

I do think JK tried to cover too much. She left too much for this one book, so there are a ton of unanswered questions.
