Because he is a SPY. Which means he risks discovery at any moment to where his true loyalties lay. If at the wrong moment Snape's Occulemency sheilds were down, it would all be over- and most likely result in a very painful death for Severus.

Sorry, but I think Snape wasn't expecting it at all. That theory leaves a lot to chance, and Voldemort never suspected Snape.

Well, the idea that he could potentially be outed as a spy is definitely canon, whehter or not he was expecting Nagini to attack him is speculation.

I partly agreed with you. I said the element of my theory that Severus would carry around potions or anticipate Nagini's attack was probably more fan speculation and fanfiction characterization-not that JKR doesn't draw from that or at least have eerie parallels- but that his danger of death after being unmasked as a spy was perfectly canon.
