Thats why I think JK will do some more writing. Maybe not another novel, but some history. Maybe a novel -- a prequel.

Listen, it's like life. Nothing is black and white. Severus Snape was many things, and none of them at the same time. The fact that he worked so hard for Dumbledore--up to his final actions--means so much. I am glad that Harry got a chance to understand so much about Prof. Snape. It saddens me that he was unable to talk to him afterwards (losing the stone). The best thing Ms. Rowling did was to make S.Snape a bit of both--evil and good, thereby making him more like a human being and capable of so much.

you are right. It is like life. You go into a classroom and sit with a teacher for an hour. You think you know them. You think they are mean, have no patience, whatever, but what you don't know is that her husband has cancer, or his sister has downs-syndrome and lives with him or her mother has Alzheimers. We just have a little glimpse and it's through our eyes and only our eyes. We saw everything we saw through Harry's eyes and we didn't see it accurately.

Snape did teach Harry and all us readers once again that a person is neither all good nor all bad...just like James, and even Dumberldore everyone has a reason for lashing out or acting out and everyone has the ability to make a bad choice like Dumbeldore did as a 17 year old and james with teasing Snape the question is do you keeping making bad choices or decide to do good as james and Dumbledore and Snape....

Snape is the most pivotal person in this story. I was dissapointed that they ended it the way they did with him.

Nonetheless, much of the message of the larger story revolves around Snape. He is it.

I think back to the 'Snape: Friend or Foe;' bookmarks at Border's this spring. He is more than friend or foe - he's a hero on almost the same scale as Harry. A friend of mine is so anxious to see Snape 'get what his sorry butt has coming to him' - she will be so shocked when she reads that chapter! I can't wait. I knew there had to be a reason for Dumbledore's blind trust!

Cool Re: (Spoiler) Snape-is-Good train

i always knew snape wasnt just plain evil. because dumbledore trusted him and he was supposed to know everything. also that was too obvious. and why in the first book would he of saved him otherwise.

yeh i agree. i had a feeling through the whole series that he was good, even after killing dumbeldore. im so glad it turned out the way it did, and im so glad that harry recognised he was such a hero. there would be very few people who would risk everything for the regret and resentment he had for Lily, even so many years after her death.
i knew that after all that time, all dumbeldore's wisdom, there had to be a reason for his trusting snape

i've got a question for anyone who can answer..
i was just flicking through my book again, and came to the chapter on snapes memories "the prince's tale"
i don't understand why he sends his patronus out the window? is it to prove he loved Lily because she too cast a doe as her patronus?
anyway to save everyone looking it up, this is what it says before and after it happens..
(the conversation is between snape 'S' and Dumbeldore 'd')
S: I have spied for you and lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was supposed to be to keep Lily Potter's son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter. -
D: But this is touching Severus, Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?
S: For him? snape shouted, 'Expecto Patronum!"
From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe: she landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office and soared out of the window. Dumbeldore watched her fly away and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
D: After all this time?
S: Always
And the scene shifted, now Harry saw snape talking to the portrait of dumbeldore behind his desk. (Explains about telling death eaters time of harrys departure)

it could be simple but i have confused myself!
