I thiink they really do like each other a lot, but are too stubborn/shy to admit it. Also, someone said Hermione was too smart to go for the likes of Ron. She may not need an intellectual equal. They say that opposites attract. Also, just because Ron isn't book-smart, doesn't mean he isn't intelligent. It takes a lot of intelligence to learn to play chess like Ron does! I think she is drawn to the qualities that he possesses, which she herself lacks... fun-loving, easy-going, laid-back, etc...

I think Ron has a quirky, adorable vibe and that is what Hermione is drawn to.

Besides, in the HP3 movie, when they thought Buckbeak was executed, she cried on Ron's shoulder and took her comfort from him. She also got all mad when he was Snogging Lavender in book 6.

I think that whatever is simmering between them just needs time to become a rolling boil!
