The Davinci Code

I was wondering....has anyone seen the movie? I've read the book, and the critics are all poo-pooing the movie. Is it worth my time and money to go see it, or should I wait for the DVD. I loved the book. I find non- traditional views on theology very interesting.

I'm in the same boat. I've read the book, which I enjoyed, but I have not seen the movie. I have heard mixed, but mostly not so flattering, reviews of it. I do plan on seeing it, but I have not got aroud to it yet.

I was thinking how many times I'd got a character figured out all WRONG in the books!!! JK ~ does this deliberatley ....narrative deception ~ she feeds us a red herring or leaves a bit out or only shows one side of a character but has a whole underlying motive or persona plot revealed only at the end ( ...the bitter end for some)

1.Take Quirrell for example .... He was portrayed as a blithering bumling stuttering Quirrell. Who would have thought he'd be the actual VEHICLE for the parasite Voldermort?

When I though about it ....there were many many more?

2.Luna is another one ....At first she seems eccentric and completely off the planet. but as you get to know her ...you realize she is totally comfortable in herself, extremely clever and observant and quite fearless. But because she was different she was overlooked by the crowd and religated to the outskirts or fringe.

3.I love Neville ...because in books 1-4 he's another bumbling misfit that we are led to believe is a pretty lost cause .... but I, was amazed as I watched his chacter grow up before my eyes. Even though he was in Gryffindor from the off (begining) It seemed like a mistake ...but then we see otherwise. E.g he stood his ground showing bravery and courage when confronting the trio ... book 1, Book 4 ...Neville the acaedemic uses his brain and knowledge to help Harry by finding the Gilly weed ... Book 5, joined DA and also went to the ministry to help and support Harry.

But there were others.

Hey, wait a minute – It’s another “I should have known” moment.

I don’t mean to turn another thread into an extention of T.I.R.A.D.E., but that story was pretty dumb, too.

How could Barty Jr. have played such a role so well? He was just a dumb kid, already a basket case, and then he spent over a decade of his early adulthood in a prison of fog. Forget the incredible amount of talent one would need to impersonate MadEye so well for so long in front of so many people. He had no time or opportunity to develop such a talent.

He also had little time to play with Voldemort and learn the dark arts. A little time as a kid before Voldemort fell, then those few summer weeks between the Quiddich Cup (Barty Jr’s escape) and the beginning of school in September.

I shrugged it off and made excuses at the time. If I think about it real hard I could remember what my excuses were, but I don’t care enough.

Scabbers is one that got me thinking about it all. He showed up in Book 1 but it's not until Book 3 that we start to see the real rat. When Hermione gets Crookshanks and this whole cat and rat thing happens all the time, I just thought cat/rat thing. But now I see Crooshanks had obviously smelt a RAT and knew it wasn't what it seemed! It was a really big clue.

you missed the biggest 'not what they seem' moment of all...

I would like to add Narcissa Malfoy as well. she showed that her Maternal instincts were more powerful than any promise or threat Voldemort could have thrown at her.

What I like about the 'not what they seem' thing.
- when we meet someone - we always have a first impression - sometimes it is right - some times it is wrong. Depending on whether we have a positive or negative first impression - it DOES cloud our perception on every action and word - that they do.

It teaches you to perhaps dig a little deeper and try to get to know someone better... even if your first impression isn't that great. Sometimes it is worthwhile.

Can I mention a few people from the site?
Teddy-I thought she was a guy. (But she wanted to see how many people she could fool.)
Myself-Everyone(except Teddy)was shocked when they found out I'm only 12. (Sprout actually thought I was 17! HAH!)

Definately Krecher. Hermione understood and respected that he had feelings no matter how ugly and irksome ...he seemed to be. At Kingscross station Dumbledore also reveals to Harry that Sirius never realllyyy got that about Kreacher.

My conclusion exactly ~I assume JK was often misunderstood or perhaps had a pretty solitary life on many levels motivating her to write about the nature of true character and the worth of an individual which can often be overlooked because of the prejudices people develop.

Dig and I add ...be patient. Relationships are lots of work.
