Cause I thought you had to be a seventh year to become head boy and head girl.

you dont have to be a prefect to become a head boy/girl...remember james was not a prefect, but he became a head boy...

No, I think JKR made a mistake in the first book. You have to be a prefect first.

But in the fifth book, Mrs.Weasley said Ron being Prefect could lead to Head Boyship!

yes it does makes sence...
its like when ur good in junior school, you will be good in senior school too. probably yes. it makes sence.
but its not always the case..
