Default new family member!

Hi all,

I'd like you to meet 'lil gimpi' he is an Australian grey cockatiel and he has a genetic disorder which has affected some of his bones in his feet as well as his left wing. This means he cannot fly. If he were in the wild, he wouldn't survive.

We saw him yesterday and felt so sorry for him. We didn't think anyone would want him and couldn't bear the thought of him being alone. He is a wild bird - he hasn't been hand reared, but it is our hope that our next picture will have him perched on my finger... we will see how we go.

Where did you get him? You say, "We saw him yesterday."
In the wild? In a shelter?
He looks like an adult -- how did he live so long already?

that is so wonderful that you have enough kindness in your heart(s) to rescue this poor creature from his (once) eminent death in the wild.

He was in a shelter with other birds. All the other birds were perched on the branches above. He was just running around on the floor trying to jump up high enough to reach the wire so he could climb up to be with this friends. We watched him running and jumping for what felt like hours. It is heartbreaking to see him trying so hard to be with the others.

I doubt if he's a year old. He is beautiful when he is sleepy. I've custom designed his cage with various branches and things for climbing. It's been 24 hours now and I've seen him exploring all the branches and even the ceiling of the cage.

thank you! yes - this is why we have bird cages....
his appetite is coming back which is good. the move from one place to another can be quite stressful for a bird.

birds are prey animals - not hunters (like dogs and cats). it's super interesting how different they are.

he chirped today as I got home from work.
our other bird was chirping too. I think they are bonding quite well.

AND I saw him drink some water (which is great). I'm very happy about that.
