The logical (boring) answer is that a black hole is just a huge star, with gravity so strong that even light can't escape. If something falls in, it would burn up long before it got there, or be crushed.

But that's no fun. So let's speculate that it's a portal to ________.

Very cool....

Suppose a black hole could transport you to another world. What kind of life forms would you encounter? A world run by baboons? Or maybe human-like beings the size of ants? The possibilities are limitless......

A world run by baboons? Nah...
A world run by chimpanzees, however, THAT'S something to consider.

Crazy aunts?
Well, my aunt was crazy.
Probably because she was married to my father's brother.

Yes, but there's also the non-boring answer that's still scientific speculation about time travel occuring in a black hole...(has to do with relative spacetime to event horizon)
Its also an area of curvature in spacetime, which is pretty cool (singularity).

As far as being a portal...more along the lines of a wormhole.
