| Don't mind Heds, she's still in denial. Herms- your eariler post was great, exactly what T.I.R.A.D.E. is all about. Becaude that's a serious paradox- how was Dumbledore supposed to have defeated Grindelwald in a duel (and thus gained the Elder Wand's allegiance) if Grindelwald was using the Elder Wand- the unbeatable wand! The wand allegiance plot device is ridiculously weak. The way it is portrayed in DH, allegiances change over to other magicians very easily- the Elder Wand to Draco, because of a not even very good Disarming of Dumbledore- despite the fact that it was Severus, not Draco, who "defeated" Dumbledore. So supposedly, this had to do with the fact that Severus had been ordered to kill Dumbledore- so he didn't really want to. Okay, the nature of the Avada Kedavra curse, as with all Unforgivables, is that in the moment of casting the emotion must be very strong and behind it. So at least at this moment, the intent to kill- thus defeat- Dumbledore was very real. Furthermore, Dumbledore allowed himself to be Disarmed because 1)He took thbe time to protect Harry instead 2)It seemed unlikely that Dumbledore would have seriously attacked Draco- that did not seem part of the plan. The phenomen either contradicts itself, or we have a scenario were wand allegiances of most characters have been switched around so much throughout all the books its' ridiculous. The number of times they've been disarmed in one way or another... |
