Because don't u remember in the fifth book in the chapter were Harry sees Snape's memories when Sirius and James and Padfoot were all together and teasing Snape and Sirius says we are just being mean to him because he's human

As for Lily and James, I think that they were ment for each other. Snape and Lily were friends, in Lily's eyes. I don't think that she ever really looked at Snape in any other way.

Hello, Lily, welcome to HPC.

I personally don't buy into the "meant for each other" sort of idea... I think Lily could have ended up with Seveus just as she could have ended up with James... in HP canon obviously she is with James and I'm not sure if changing that would have made the story any better... on the other hand I think it was a real possibility, and not an unappealing one, that Lily and Severus could have been together had a few small things gone differently. In some ways I feel that Severus maybe deserved it more than James... but it's hard to say. We don't know exactly how or why James "redeemed" himself... and there are six years of "Who know's what'll happen" before that....
I like the Lily/Severus pairing but more as an AU/What if? kind of fanfic scenario.
