hey witches and wizards!
i am new here!!!

i have a question myself....
i don't get it why dumbledore said that lily evans' sacrifice is the one that turned the curse on voldemort....
i mean james potter sacrificed himself for both his wife and his child...that doesn't count?

Hello and Welcome to HPC!!! I think the reason it didn't count was that Voldamort gave Lily a chance to save herself, he didn't give that choice to James. And when Lily said "no take me instead" that was what created the protection spell.

Welcome to HPC! This is a wonderful site for all Harry Potter fans to get together and talk all things Harry Potter. We have a great RPG section with many role playing stories going on. We also have a fanfic section if you like to write and if you want to spend a lazy afternoon just reading, we have a library. You will need 20 or so posts for these and other doors to open for you. There are games you can play to build your posts. You will find them in Muggle World. If you have any questions or a problem start a thread and someone will help you. Most of all enjoy your time here and I hope you love this site as much as I do. And I think Misty is right about the protection charm. A mother's love is liken to no other.

Well you've also got to remember that Lily did a charm and James didn't. And Voldy rushed in so hot and heated he forgot to check for it and so got hit with the charm when he tried to kill Harry and it back fired and i think you kno the rest.

Hey welcome to HPC!!! I agree with misty, pips, and hpbooklover5. Also I dont think James was aware he was about to die for his family. He was trying to hold voldy off. Lily knew what was going to happen to her.

first and foremost...WELCOME!!!

Great question and I agree with all the theories (except the part about Lily performing a charm, I don't remember that part

). That was the major flaw I found in the books and it never really made sense to me. I mean, wouldn't countless other mothers/fathers/friends have said "take me instead?". It seems like Harry shouldn't have been the only one.
