I thought they were all okay, that they were not horrible, as far as movies go, but that they also could have done better, especially for OotP. Some of the earlier years were good, but obviously they had less material they had to fit in, so it was easier.
I continue to think that the movies are very good. I suppose my expectations have never been that high and possibly my memory is so poor that I have usually forgotten almost the entire book by the time the movie arrives. It's true that they are not as satisfying or rich but I still feel that they have a lot of charm.

Again, I just have such a long history of loving books and being disappointed in movies, that I don't need to get so much from the movies.

So, pretty much you find them good because you expect them to be bad= which just means to me that they are still, overall, mediocre. Although your perspective is a good way to get more enjoyment out of the movies.

Well, you could put it that way.

I give the movies points for the way they show us the settings. I love Hogwarts, the great hall, the paintings (that awful woman's office with the kittens -wonderful)the ghosts.

I especially loved Moaning Myrtle.

The pixies, the mandrakes.

Again my idea of Myrtle was quite different, but I thought Myrtle was so cute. Great voice.

So the movies didn't take me where the books took me, but they showed me things in a different way.

I really loved the 1st movie because I was so excited to Diagon Alley & the Hogwarts ceiling come alive!! Yes, the movies leave out a lot. All movies based on books do.

I agree about the sets and the details--I couldn't wait to see Diagon Alley on screen, or Platform 9 3/4. Since we know the stories, I am easily distracted by all the little details in the background on each set!

Somewhere McD mentioned watching the actors naturally age on screen as the story progresses--I have enjoyed that part as well.

But for the story, you can't beat the books.

The Platform doesn't really stick out in my mind, especially compared to Hogwarts and Diagon Alley, although as far as the books, I think it is probably equally important as Diagon Alley.

Hogsmeade and Gringotts were both good, but could have been done better.

Hogwarts is sublime. And I love the scenes with owls delivering letters in the great hall. And I repeat that I love the moving paintings, Dobby and Moaning Myrtle.
