So you don't think the movies are'nt good ither. I was pritty disipointed when I saw them. They don't tell you every thing needed to understand the hole Harry Potter thing. Like they don't tell you who mad the map in the third movie. And they don't put in the second match against Slytherin. And winning the House Cup.

Teehee Alyssa, you are psycho.
It took you this long to realize this and yes Draco is probably in there to keep us happy. BUT He is important and very funny in the 4th&5h book and so far that JK has told us is that a chapter in Half Blood Prince is named after Draco. It should be in the movies

Right now, you are experiencing something people before computers and before TV had. Reading a book and letting words create a world inside your head is so much better than watching it on a digital screen. "Never judge a book by it's movie." is standing true in your instance. I do understand that laying a book word for word onto a script would be long and boring, however one man's idea of how the imagination is not everyones. What I'm saying is, you believe your description of Hogwarts and Harry is better than our friends at Warner Bros. I believe that also.

The movies are very good for their purpose, but honestly... the books are much better.

Both the books and the movie feed the imagination. Books are more intense and detailed, which means you can go back and reference all or part of them at any time. If you go to a movie and come away feeling as though you've been somewhere, then the movie has served it's purpose. I felt that way about Movies 1 & 2 but not Movie 3. Movie 3 had me groaning every time Dumbledore II was on screen and the Time Turner sequence was the equivalent of watching a long instant replay. Okay for sports but boring in a movie.

Loudly Silent: I love yuor Avatar!! Where did you get it ? I've tried to import one but I'm too techno-dumb I think (well obviously I don't think if I'm dumb. Maybe I don't tech!?) Anyway, any info would be great.

SeriousPadfoot: I totally agree that books draw the reader in; you are part of the creation; your imagination becomes not just the screen that the story is played onto, more, you become all the characters - that is if it's done well. The fact that there are so many of us HP fans out there who really care/ feel personally about the story, speaks to brillance of the world Jo's let us be a part of. I reckon Jo knows what she's done and how important we all our to her world as much as she has been to the creation of our HP world. But, we all create our own HP worlds just as the director created theirs. Lucky bastards!

Zonko: Dunno if I totally agree. I watch the films 'cause they are about Harry and I'm interested in knowing how someone else sees Harry's world. I kinda resent the fact that someone else's vision has now taken over my own. I can no longer read Harry without picturing the directors' creation; I can't remember my own. I read HArry with those characters' voices saying the lines. AND i now pronounce 'Hermione' 'properly' (which is still a REALLY bad name - at least that hasn't changed!). I know the films had to happen, but... I dunno, it's kinda like this whole globalisation thing, you kinda wished they'd leave something that's all yours, alone.

I do agree with you Zonko that the films have started me thinking about stuff that I never would have thought of by myself - another's interpretation (kinda like this site) leads to places you never would have got to on your own. For example the whole 'Lupin loved Lily> lupin is a spy thing'. Now the world would surely be a sadder place without THAT kinda brillant and original thought!! :P ...??? And we ALL have the movies to thank for THAT!! *read with deep sarcasim*

I still WAY prefer the books - the humour and depth opf characters are the most obvious eg.'s of where the films are weak. I like the 2nd Dumb. I think he's way quirkier and nuttier than richard Harris- More nutty than Dick ! (This is by far the least rude version of this pun. I hope you realise the kind of sacrifices I am making for Ms Manners!!??)
