I don't know if anyone else notised but . I was just thinking. A lion and a bird is called a griffin. So that's probaly how they named the house griffindor. What do you think? And it is said a lion represent Griffindor

Absolutely correct. The french term is "gryffin d'or" and means golden lion. The griffins were able to take on serpents and other evils of nature.

Good thing Harry was sorted into the correct house so that he could take on the serpents

Gryffon or griffin was a lion and an eagle conjoined. Maybe this is a symbol of love between Godric Gryffindor who's house symbol was the lion and Rowena Ravenclaw who's house symbol was and eagle!
