Full Name: Remus John Lupin Nickname: Moony Born: This is never mentioned in the novels, but according to the Harry Potter Lexicon, it is estimated that he was born circa 1960. Parents: Half-blood Hogwarts House: Gryffindor Hogwarts Achievements: Prefect from his 5th year. Hogwarts Best Friends: Sirius Black (aka. Padfoot), James Potter (aka. Prongs), and Peter Pettigrew (aka. Wormtail). Occupation: Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts for one year. However, most of the time he has found it hard to get paid work ("being a werewolf is an occupational hazard"). Currently he is working for the Order of the Phoenix. Fun Fact: His beverage and food preferences include tea, butterbeer, wine, and chocolate! What good taste he has Personality: Calm, reserved, polite, good-natured, caring, intelligent, forgiving, subtle sense of humour, mischevious (well he was a marauder!). Flaw: He "likes to be liked". He has been shunned so often due to being a Werewolf that when he does have friends, he cuts them a LOT of slack. Human Appearance: "The stranger (Lupin) was wearing an extremely shabby set of wizard's robes which had been darned in several places. He looked ill and exhausted. Though he seemed quite young, his light-brown hair was flecked with grey." Werewolf Appearance: "There was a terrible snarling noise. Lupin's head was lengthening. So was his body. His shoulders were hunching. Hair was sprouting visibly on his face and hands, which were curling into clawed paws."

Lupin is a great character but another reason why i am so facinated by him is because he is so mysterious. here are a few mysteries about him. Does anyone know the answer to any of the questions??? What does the J. stand for in Remus. J. Lupin? This has been answered! The "J" stands for "John". Where does Remus live? OoTP tells us that Remus lives at Grimmauld Place with Sirius when not away for the Order, but surely he could not have been living there before the Order was reassembled, for one thing because Sirius was still in Azkaban then. So, where has Remus been living in the past and will he continue to stay at Grimmauld Place now Sirius is gone? What is Remus' septology mystery? This question is bugging the authors of the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter; they are convinced that something big will be revealed about Remus. I think they could be right, all though I don't agree with their theory about what might be revealed. Has Remus ever killed someone? In the pre-wolfsbane era, werewolves were actually pretty dangerous (and they still are if they forget to take their potion). In full werewolf-mode Remus could easily kill a person. He is supposed to be locked away at full moon, but who tells us that he hasn't escaped once or twice? Could this be his terrible secret? Where are Remus' family-members? We haven't heard anything about possible living family-members yet. Perhaps they are all dead or perhaps he has lost contact with them. But why? We do know that he is a half-blood, however. How did Remus survive the years after James and Lily were killed, Sirius was in Azkaban and Peter was presumed death? He must have been very lonely, because he lost all his friends in one day and being a werewolf it must have been difficult to find new friends. Did he find new friends, did Dumbledore or another Order member help him out or did he survive on his own? What exactly is Remus' profession (if he has one)? In book 5 Harry is confronted with choosing a future career. He is interested in being an Auror, but there are several other possibilities. We don't know anything yet about what career-path Remus has chosen for himself (assuming that he was allowed to choose). Some fans think he might be a teacher of some kind, because he already has a briefcase with in peeling letters Prof. R. J. Lupin on it in the Hogwarts Express and because teaching seems to come naturally to him. Has Remus been in other jobs before he came to teach at Hogwarts? We know Remus is very poor and that it is very hard for him to get a job, but it would seem impossible to live without an income for a whole twelve years (and I doubt the Wizard World has unemployment benefits). Perhaps he has had a few jobs for short periods of time. The question is: what kind of jobs and why did he leave them (i.e. did he quit himself or was he forced to leave)?

Brillant stuff Meicha. Thankyou. I've gotta go check out this 'Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter' site, it sounds right up my alley. Ta again! I really like the theory about Lupin being a teacher before. I never pondered the fact that the 'Prof. Remus J. Lupin' was peeling. Maybe he was like an itinerent teacher or tutor..?? Maybe he'll come back to the DADA good at Hoggers. I'd never thought about the years between Hogwarts and now. What was Lupin doing and how did he handle his werewolfiness??? You're right, the chances are that he has killed. The fact that Harry has not asked these kinda questions AGAIN! shows that harry is pretty self-consumed - he's never even asked about his parents!! I'm with Phineas Nigellus "Never try to understand the students. They hate it. They'd much rather be misunderstood, wallow in self-pity, stew in their own-" I really like Lupin too but I'm haunted by the line in PoA that Sirius thought Lupin was the traitor in their midst. I know it turned out to be Pettigrew but I still reckon Lupin's hiding something. I think that he loved Lily and I think that he might have passed on some info. to the Deatheaters as some kinda payback for Lily choosing James...??? Maybe Lupin was the eavesdropper at the Hog's Head...??? Does anyone else remember a line in OotP about Dumb., Snape and Lupin being accomplished at Occulency and Legimency? I need to find it.
