james saving snape

i would just like to hear other peoples opinions on the lack of insight into the saving of snape by james, it has been refered to many times in most of the books and would just like to ask if anyone else thought that we could have had more details on this event.

Or am i being a bit thick and have misunderstood something.

James saved Snape when Lupin turned into werewolf and wanted to attack Snape .
Is it like this ? Or I remember it wrongly ?

you have remembered right, i just would have liked more info on the whole thing. just me being picky i guess.

i would have liked that too, we see all that stuff about lilly and snape, but not these - often mentioned though - scene.

What we know is that:
-Sirius told Snape how to get to the Shrieking Shack.
-Snape, of course, tried it, and was pulled back by James before he could be killed by Remus, but not before seeing enough to realize Remus was a werewolf.
-Snape owes James a life debt as a result.
-Sirius was only (comparitively) lightly punished for seriously endangering the lives of his fellow classmates. (And that this is one of the reasons Snape hates Sirius.)
-Snape is sworn to secrecy on the subject of Remus' lycanthropy.

We don't know:
-Why Sirius was stupid enough to essentially attempt to murder Snape and seriously harm Remus (if only emotionally. No one wants to be used as a tool to kill.)
-Exactly what happened in the tunnel on the night of the full moon.
-What their punishments were.
-How the incident effected the relationships between Snape and the other Maruaders/Lily. (Did Snape hate James because he thought James knew about the "prank"? Remus? Lily?)
-The nature of the life-debt.
-How it effects Snape as a person.

Now that you mention it, I just realized something.

Dumbledore lied.

He told Harry that Snape hated James
because "he saved his life."
Dumbledore knew that this wasn't true.

it was not a lie. it was part of the true

Nope. They already hated each other. If this incident had never happened, Snape would still have hated James just as much.

Don't make me go into that whole, icky, Snape-Lily thing

Well , that's say , Jame's saving Snape made Snape hate James even more .
