What is Gryffindor?
We know thst Gryffindor is one of the four houses of Hogwarts and that it holds the brave and daring students. We also know that it was founded by Gryffindor, and that Dumbledore was once in it. The Sorcerer's Stone also tells us that it is one of the best houses. But, how do we know this?
Well, McGonagall tells us that Gryffindor is one of the four houses of Hogwarts.
"The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room.
The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin." (Sorcerer's Stone, page 114, American Hardback)
We also know that Gryffindor holds the brave and daring students because of the Sorting Hat in the Sorcerer's Stone, and the Goblet of Fire. We also know that Gryffidor was founded by Gryffindor, because of the Sorting Hat in the Goblet of Fire.
"You might belong to Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart..."

"Now each of the four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtue
In ones they had to teach.

And, last but not least, we know that Gryffindor is looked upon as one of the best houses and that Dumbledor was in it, because of what Hermione says.
