There are so many stories where hair is of major importance. Samson and Delilah, Rapunzel, The Broadway musical Hair, too many more to name. But with all those stories, one thing is always retold - Its bad to cut your hair. How did we all come to the fashion of short hair anyway? I know how it happened here where I live. until the mid 1800's men here wore their hair long and some even still wore wigs (but that was going out). We had us a little war here twixt the states and young men went off to our UN - civil war. While they were out there they all had to cut their hair for the lice. Understand, this was our entire country. When they returned home, the folks here cut their hairs short to honor the warriors who returned alive. Long hair has never come back into popular fashion. In the old days, youngsters would call their elders 'longhairs' as a term of derision. Those youngsters grew up and anyone with long hair then became 'hippies'. I hate hippies, but I love long hair on anyone. It shows a sense of managed care for yourself and an interest in a certain look. And I LOVE Rupert's hair!  |
