On her web site, JKRowlings says that Crookshanks isn't n animagus but isn't a pure cat either. Crookers is half Kneazle. She goes on to say that you can find out what a Kneazle is in a book called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The books been sold to raise money for famine relief so it sounds like the thing to own but I don't. Does anyone out there have the book? Does anyone know what a Kneazle is? Do they have any powers? - Crookshanks is remarkable smart. Sounds strangely familiar. Have we been introduced to them in Care of Magical Animals?

Thanks so much Lily. I stepped out for a minute; out into the big wide cyber world - pretty scary I can tell you!! and LOOK WHAT I FOUND: Kneazle: XXX The Kneazle is a catlike creature with flecked, speckled, or spotted fur, outsize ears, and a tail like a lion's. The Kneazle is intelligent, independent, and occasionally aggressive, thought it could make an excellent pet. Kneazles have up to 8 kittens in a litter and can be bred with cats. Found this at http://www.geocities.com/potterwands/kneazle.html (I'm not technogirl at all I'm afraid so I don't know how to make this a link sorry) Go to this site for more info. AND A PICTURE!!! Looks like a great site. I'd never meet it before. Isn't it strange that Crookers didn't have much of a role in the movies? Where was Crooks when they went into the Shrieking Shack after Ron and Sirius in the movie? No sitting on Sirius's chest to protect him when Harry was going to hurt/kill him. Another eg. of the movie boiling all the characters- and character- of the books into thin vapour of their original.

In [[J.K. Rowling]]'s ''[[Harry Potter]]'' series, '''kneazles''' are magical cat-like creatures close enough relatives to [[cat]]s to interbreed with them. A kneazle has large ears, spotted fur and a lion-like tail. Kneazles are considerably more intelligent than the average cat, and have a few knacks, in particular the ability to detect suspicious people (which they will react badly to). Despite their occasionally aggressive nature, if domesticated they make good pets. Kneazles must be licensed if they become tamed in the event that a [[muggle]] mistakes it for a cat. [[Crookshanks]], [[Hermione Granger]]'s pet, is half-kneazle. Information above available in ''[[Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them]]'', by J. K. Rowling (under the [[pseudonym]] of Newt Scamander) – all proceeds are donated to [[Comic Relief]]. [[Category:Harry Potter animals]]

K. so I've just checked some other chat sites on this 'Crookers is a Kneazle' thing and some have asked is Norris's cat a kneazle? Her suspiciousness is kneazle-esque after all. What do you think? Someone on another site quoted JKR as saying that Mrs Figg DOES breed kneazles. Don't know if true
| |||
Buffy: No doubt about it--Mrs. Norris is not an average cat. I think shes smarter than Filch. If Filch got petrified, Mrs. Norris wouldn't have shed a tear. Figgy breeds kneazles? Doesn't surprise me. Anyone that would hang around with Mundungus Fletcher couldn't be all that right in the head. Although Figgy does buy cat food. I thought kneazles only ate large rats and small children.

this is what it says in my copy of fantastic beasts and where to find them!!! Kneazle M.O.M classification:XXX The kneazle was originally bred in Britan, though it is now exported wordwide. A small catlike creature with flecked, speckeled, or spotted fur, outsize ears, and a tail like a lion's, the kneazle is intelligent, independent, and occasionally agressive, though if it takes a liking to a witch or wizard, it makes an exellent pet. The kneazle has an uncanny ability to detect unsavoury or suspicious charecters and can be relied upon to guide its owner safely home if they were lost. Kneazles have up to eight kittens in a litter and can interbreed with cats. Licences are required for owenership as kneazles are sufficiently unusal in appearance to attract muggle intrest. i hope this helps!!!!!!
