You are correct hpluver4ever. Harry has been singled out by Voldemort. His friends help him but they aren't on the firing line like Harry is. Harry may be famous but he also carries a heavy burden that separates him from his friends. Clearly, fame isn't everything.

Nope, it certainly isn't, thank goodness, I'd be in trouble!
I agree that Harry is drifting from his friends, especially since the death of his godfather.
I don't think that he'll completely seperate himself from their influence, but I think he probably dosn't feel as secure and protected in his friends as he used too.
... Did I just repeat myself twice?

KaraC: No actually you bring up two good points. Sirius's death closed a window for him that he thinks can never be re-opened. Of course time will tell on that score.

Also, there was a time at Hogwarts when Harry felt that he truly belonged for the first time in his life. He expected to always belong, sharing experiences with his friends. Now, however, he knows his destiny doesn't include his friends. Once again, Harry feels that he's alone with a burden that no one can share. Just like in the muggle world, Harry is on the outside looking in. Tough way to go for our hero.

You're right, Zonko. Harry does seem to be drifting from his friends. I think that maybe he's still traumatized about Sirius' death.

Absolutely agree. It's the old Jesus complex. Buffy went through the same thing: 'The chosen one will always walk alone.' 'One' and 'alone' play a big part in both these heroes' lives. Hang on, Buffy went all 'darker' after the death of her Mum ...? What do you reckon that JKR not only read Tolkien (obviously) and Ibbotson but is also a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan?? Or is it just inevitable that all heroes must 'walk alone'? Is Harry feeling his 'calling'/ his destiny even before he's told about the prophecy? Is this why he was a grumpy, tanty throwing, snippy snappy in the 5th? Was he truly feeling the weight of being 'special' for the first time or was that just hormones?

i really dont think that was hormones. i think that harry is finally realizing that if he's to rid both that magical and non-magical worlds of voldemort, then he must "carry the weight of the world all alone"

yeah i think the reason is because he dos not want his frenids to get hurt and that is just one reason, he feel s that if they were good freinds that they would figure out a way to tell him everthing he wanted to know

timewalker: Are you suggesting that Hermione (man I don't like that name! When I first read the books - up until the 5th where Hermione tells Krumm how to say her name- I'd pronounce it Her- me-on. Is it from Mid Summers Nights Dream or something? Any way back to the question and Ron are most there for moral support? I remember in Buffy, Willow gets really annoyed at Buffy acting all 'I'm the chosen one so you must do as I say' and Willow yells "I'm not your side-kick!!" I wonder if Ron and Hermione will do the same; get fed-up with Harry's grumpy carry on and 'hero/ I must save everyone' attitude.

Frodo int he LotR went through a bit of a hissy fir 'cause he believed no-one else could carry his load, then Sam did! Maybe Harry should trust that his friends are more than just there for moral support or sidekicks.
