In HP 1 movie, Hagrid used magic to lit the fire and add a tail to Dudley. Now throughout the books and movies, it is mentioned that the can detect magic being used by anyone. EXAMPLES: Harry being the only in the Dursley's house they knew (well assummed) Harry performed magic. In HP & HBP the knew Mofin cast magic on Muggles. SO ---- Why could they not know Hagrid performed magic in front of Muggles in the first book & movie.

Hagrid explains that fairly well to Harry the morning after he entered the hut on the rock, when he and Harry are about to get into the boat to take them to land. He says that he was allowed to do some magic in his going to collect Harry - that was why he was so eager for the job. So, I reckon he's covered there.

Also, if Hagrid ever used magic at school it would bve blamed on a student or teacher, that is if they even bother to see how much magic is being used at Hogwarts. I mena, talk about overload.
