What the heck? Seems to me she has never read the book. I don't remember the religion of Wicca being mentioned in ANY HP Series book. Please do enlighten me if there has been. I really do want to know where she is coming from. Hey.. also.. I hope I'm in the right forum for this! I'm new so I have been trying my best to not break any rules. ATLANTA - A suburban county that sparked a public outcry when its libraries temporarily eliminated funding for Spanish-language fiction is now being asked to ban Harry Potter books from its schools. Laura Mallory, a mother of four, told a hearing officer for the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Tuesday that the popular fiction series is an "evil" attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion. Board of Education attorney Victoria Sweeny said that if schools were to remove all books containing reference to witches, they would have to ban "Macbeth" and "Cinderella." http://msnbcmedia2.msn.com/j/ap/d06839ed-b...583.hmedium.jpg

That woman is ridiculous. I'm just glad the state school board decided to throw out her case again. I live in Georgia and I know how upset some people would be if Harry Potter would have been taken out of public libraries.

I dont understand why people want to ban HP it's just a book it's not like everyone who reads it goes out and joins evil religions. If all the people who read Harry Potter join evil religions of witch craft then maybe it'd be okay to ban the books

i know exactly what you guys are saying. i am a huge harry potter fan, and this woman is crazy! harry potter is the most amazing thing in the world. it actually got me into reading. we should protest to her crazy ideas and send in to someone who can help.

As far as I am concerned, this woman must have never read any of the Harry Potter series... otherwise she would be preaching something completely different. Me, myself, as a new mom (although my son is only two months old) I have already started reading the books to him every day.

Kind of like when HPB came out churches were trying to ban them - saying the books are into wizards and wizards which leads to following satan. That is like night and day. Like music being blamed for suicide. I am a parent & I really think some parents have nothing better to do than moan and complain.

I read that you mentioned Wicca somewhere above. Some of you may have thought Wicca is evil. It is not. If you look at any of the sites on Wicca you will see that it is a purely good religion that follows nature. It has nothing to do with Satan. The church´s reasons for banning these books is because they are afraid of losing believers in their own religion. This is stupid, the church is just possesive and it wants everyone to follow Christianity, so it says that all Pagan religions are evil. I am a good example of someone who has decided to turn Wiccan partly because of the Harry Potter books, but that was my own choice, and there are many more reasons behind my decision. This woman is obviously very Christian and believes that the Bible´s word is law. Harry Potter books may be leading children away from Christianity, but then all children have a right to find their own beliefs, they shouldn´t have to be forced by their parents or the church. All children have an imagination and if Harry Potter books were banned, there will always be another way for children to find new beliefs. We are in the 21st century and everyday there are less young people who go to church, less who believe in Christ or God, and less who say their prayers or go to confess, whether there be Harry Potter or not. I know people who think Harry Potter is only for children and they still claim that they don´t believe in God. Harry Potter is merely a book to be enjoyed by anyone who wishes to read it, and not only that, it has taught many children to want to read and learn and turn off the television for a change. It is no different to books like Lord of the Rings or the Chronicles of Narnia. Was there that much controversy with those well known works of literature? As far as I know, Harry Potter has not lead any children to become Satanists, and I don´t know why it should, because as all of you well know, Harry Potter is a character who fights evil, not who creates it.
