Cheers Zonko m lad.

I am flushed with glory. Miss Manners rushes for the ladies to powder her nose: Voldemort and Harry's wands are brothers because they share the same core BUT they have nothing else in common I'm afraid. Look:
"Mr Olivander toched the lightening scar on Harry's forehead with a long, white finger.
'I'm sorry to say I sold the wand that did it,' he said softly. 'Thirteen and a half inches. Yew. Powerful wand, very powerful...'"
(Philosopher's Stone ,p.64, Aus ed. softback)
Harry's wand is "...holly and phoenix feather, eleven inches..." (ibid. p.65) you are right there.

Patronus's/ Patronii- maybe they choose the person too like the wand? do they have to be animals/ alive? Can they be objects do we kinow?

If patronus's are totemic-like I still vote for D and a pheonix. Wonder what D's boggarts turn into?

Buffy: Crikey! How could I have missed that??!! But I did. Yew! 13.5 inches??!! I am cut to the quick. Wounded sire but not dead. Yew!!! I think I must have been more creeped-out by Olivander than I thought and missed the whole point. Bartender! More coffee!

Okay. Buffy you get bonus points for that. I will take bogus points. Please accept my sincerest apologies for misleading you.

Now that brings me to another point. So does priori incantatem only work if the insides of the wand are the same? So a wand is NOT like a musical instrument where the wood determines the vibration and the resonance? So as long as you have a bird tail feather, you can stick it inside a plastic straw and still take on hordes of death eaters and similar crypto cow plops? Bloodyhell! Then let's pluck that phoenix clean and give everyone a Fawkes feather wand so that they can put Voldemort on notice that he's going down! What the halifax are we waiting for?!

Poooooop! I say, Poooooooooooop!

Poor little Fawksie-Wawksie!!! NOOO

We had a bald sulphur-crested cockatoo when I was a kid called 'Biggles the Flightless Parrot' (parots are what make Australia. They're the funniest most beautiful animals the world's ever known - even magicals have got nothing on these fellas. Sod koalas- grumpy, no hoper lay abouts). Where was I?..Oh: Maybe Fawkes could go on a production line; we keep plucking, he keeps regrowing. It would be just like a sweatshop only we'd get WWF funding (not Amnesty approval though so JKR wouldn't like it).

You're right: the core of the wand is more significant than the length or wood it seems. Maybe like the 'soul' (whatever that is) is more significant than the bod. etc.

I'm working on my newest and, I think, the best theory I've made up thus far. Wanna sneak preview? Here we go then: Lupin is a Deatheater! I know it's awful but after spending the afternoon scanning the other chat rooms, I can come with no other conclusion. I won't tell all right this minute but - here's a teaser- got a lot to do with this PoA movie foreshadowed relevations in the 6th and 7th and Lupin fancying Lily (there's that 'they were in love' thing again- I'm bloody hopeless!!). I genuinely think I'm on to something though. Are you sufficiently tantilised? Is your breath baited?

Sorry there Buff but your right you are hopeless. Lupin, Deatheater not likely but think's for playing, Wormtail was the only Deatheater in thier little group and I know this because if Lupin had been one Peter surely would of outted him in the shrieking shack When he was trying to save his own life.

Hi Jamespotter: Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of Harry Potter Chat.
We are the night owlers.

Buffy: I think Jamespotter might be right. If you told me that Lupin was a Hawaiian Eskimo, I could buy that, but a death eater? This better be good because I think you may be way out of the ball park here. Better yet, maybe you could incorporate your Lupin theory into the next installment of Lockhart & Snape DAD. What do you think? I think it's a brilliant idea. Cheers for Buffybuff. And the crowd goes wild!!!!

Hello James. 1st posting and you've come out swinging hey?? OK 'm laddies, 'm Danny boys, 'm poor simple fools.... here I go; orbiting around planet 'Probably' I'm going for entry into the atmosphere of 'Hey I think I've got it!' world:

Like all genius, my theory is born from the brillance and hard work of others. All I ask is that you take a deep, relax your itchy posting fingers (or 'finger' in my case), roll your shoulders and read and it also might help if you suspend all beliefs for a moment OK? I reckon Lupin is (maybe)/ was (def,) a spy for Voldemort; he was a Deatheater. Here's why:

Laying the foundations:
*Voldemort in the graveyard after his resurrection, calls Deatheaters to him. Some are named- Mr & Mrs Lestrange (who'd sent their apologise but were otherwise detained), Pettigrew, Malfoy, Macnair, Nott, Avery, Crabbe, Goyle - while others aren't named or speak at all: "Some of the Death Eaters he passed in silence...". Then when Voldemort gets to a space in the circle, he says:
"And here we have six missing Death Eaters... three dead in my service. One, too cowardly to return...he will pay. One, who I believe has left me forever... he will be killed, of course... and one, who remains my most faithful servant, and who has already re-entered my service... He is at Hogwarts, that faithful servant..."
'Too cowardly' is Kakaroff I reckon. 'Faithful servant' is obviously Crouch Jr.. Who is the one who has 'left him forever'? I presumed it was Snape but what if he, master of occulency and still spying for Dumbledore, was one of the Death Eaters V. passed in silence? JKR refused to say who the missing Deatheater was which implies that this is an issue that will become relevant.

Why Lupin?:
* When JKR saw the Prisoner of Azkaban for the first time she said she had "chills" because the director had inadvertantly foreshadowed 2 things that would happen in the 6th and 7th books. These things only happened in the movie not in the books because she would never have given away such clues. So every Harry-nut with a pause button has been going over and over the movie of Prisoner of Azkaban and comparing it line for line with the book. They've come up with some amazing stuff (my fav. being that Hermione will become a werewolf) which I'll post in the 3rd movie page or it'll confuse things here.
One of the scenes that only occurs in the movie, is when Lupin and Harry are on the bridge and are talking about Lily. Lupin says of Lily:" She could see beauty in people before they could see it themselves" and "She was there for me when no-one else was". The overwhelmingly popular contention (and I agree with it) of those posting is that, because of the words and his manner when he delivered them, Lupin and Lily had a special and private relationship but more to the point that Lupin loved Lily.

From this, I reach for the stars:
Did Lupin love Lily? Why was there "no-one else" for him to talk to? Had he had a falling out with his friends? What about? What reaction did Lupin have when Lily chose James; did he pass information to Voldemort out of spite? Sirius thought the spy was Lupin, was he right? Did Lupin convince Pettigrew to help him/ did Lupin manipulate pettigrew into helping Voldemort; did Lupin lead Pettigrew into passing messages without pettigrew knowing he was being manipulated? After all, Pettigrew doesn't seem the type to bumble into Voldemorts lair without some kind of encouragement from someone else even if that encouragement is cloaked; pretty easy for Lupin to get one over on Pettigrew I think. Therefore, I don't know whether Pettigrew knew Lupin was spying for Voldemort or not but it doesn't change that I do think Lupin was.

I'm sure there's a line in OotP when we're told that Snape, Dumbledore AND Lupin are accomplished in occulency - for the life of me I can't find it!!! If I'm right, why would they tell us this if it isn't relevant (more convincing if I could find the line right?).

Is Lupin still spying? I'm really not sure. If Lupin is the Deatheater who had left Voldemort's service, then maybe not, unless he has come back to V's service. With James and Lily out of the way I don't see why he would go back to Voldemort. If he was one of DEathEaters V passed by silently, then yes maybe he is still a DeathEater. What did he do all day for the OotP? He didn't have a job or friends (being werewolf and all) to spy for the Order so maybe he spends his time spying for V..

And finally for your scornful pleasure, there is the point that, Lupin is a major character and yet we don't 'know' him as we've been allowed to get to know others: Sirius or even Mr Weasley for eg. He's a 'main' character and yet has been in the periphery for two books now. This is always something to be suspicious of when it comes to our JKR.

So, what do you think?
Please keep in mind that I like this theory. So when you're bombarding it with mockery, attacking it with 'facts' and demolishing it with ridicule, be gentle.

Poor Buffy I must say those are some pretty good points. Now if you don't mind I will try and Shot each one out of the water. Firstly the missing person in the graveyard was snape (I Think) Because later in D's office D ask's snape if he is ready to do his part by rejoining V and then Snape leaves to go see V. Now if snape had already seen V that night why would he need to go again. End Part 1

Last but not least JKR put lupin in the book and kept him there in a semi-leading role for several reason's a. She wanted a werewolf inthe book b. she needed a new defence teacher c. She needed someone to backup sirius's story inthe Shack. Then after all that she could'nt just through him a way so he got put into the ORDER along with Moody who she does'nt need at this time. And Thats All I Have To Say About That.

Well Buffy it does look good on paper. However there are some things that people need to take into consideration. Do you think that Lupin could out smart Mad Eye? Who had been an Auror hunting DE's for how many years? This is just my opinion, it could be wrong.
