The proof that the prophecy is not lame and that it does indeed work is the fact that, no matter how hard he tries, Voldemort has NOT been able to kill Harry. As a baby with no wizarding training, Harry looked like easy pickings for Voldemort. Harry's looks were deceiving. Not only did Harry NOT die, he reduced Voldemort to toast crumbs. Mind you, this was BEFORE Dumbledore's protective charm on Harry.

The reverse is also true. Voldemort will only be killed at the time, at the place and by the designated wizard mentioned in the prophecy. Which brings us to another curiosity. Why didn't Voldemort go to the Department of Mysteries himself and see if there were a prophecy with VOLDEMORT or RIDDLE on it? Perhaps he thinks that he is more powerful than any lame-o prophecy.

Finally is the business of wands. Voldemort and Harry both have holly wands with a phoenix feather. What does Dumbledore have? Fawkes is certainly Dumbledore's protector and has protected Harry as well. But Olivander said that Fwkes gave up only 2 feathers. According to my calculations there are 2 feathers and "tree fellers" (little joke). So what is in Dumbledore's wand?

to your first question. i was puzzled over why voldemort did not just go to the department of mysteries himself i thought that perhaps he could not enter it, in the book they said that voldemort would not walk into the department of mysteries because it's filled with aurors. i thought that maybe voldemort realized this and di not want to take the chance.
About the other question about voldemort wand i thought that is was from the phoenix how many feathers does a phoenix have? more than two? voldemort and dumbledore in a duel seems to have a challenge as with harry, is it because of a similarity with wands? or that dumbledore's wand is more powerful? this is an excellent question and i am puzzled over exactly what is dumbledore wnad made of. i will try and see if it's mentioned anywhere

Zonko 'm lovely: I didn't say the prophecy was lame I said Dumbledore's fatalistic attitude to it was lame. As I've mentioned elsewhere but, I concede that this is my mothering instinct towards Harry and I'm surprised that D doesn't feel the same/ do more. JKR says that D doesn't give the real reason why he doesn't kill V. I don't know quite what she's getting at here. She says she couldn't say anymore 'cause she'd giving away too much already on that subject....what?

Wands: Are you sure Voldemort's wand is made of the same wood as Harry's? I thought it was only the cores that are the same. After all Ollivander says"No two wands are the same".

meicha: I agree there was something else, we don't know about yet, going on in that duel 'tween D and V.

Zonko: Can we have reading by the author of the 'Dark Detectives' in the Leaky Culdron please? My shout

Hi Meicha: Voldemort and Harry definitely have the same wands made from holly and phoenix tail feathers both from Fawkes. Fawkes only gave 2 tail feathers, Olivander tells us so. Does Dumbledore's wand have a crown feather or a heart feather? Fawkes is his signature bird. I wonder if Dumbledore's Patronis takes the shape of a phoenix too. If so, then why wouldn't Harry's wand contain the heart string of a stag? If the wands are hand-made then of course no two will be alike. However, it doesn't matter because the wand chooses the wizard. I guess what I am saying is that without knowing more about Dumbledore, it's too difficult to guess his motives with any certainty. For all Dumbledore's fame and importance, we know very little about him.

Buffy: Well the first episode of Lockhart & Snape was rather a slog through the bog, as it were. I think it best if I just stick to posting. In fact, I'm thinking of hiring HyperD to bury it. We could have a lovely service at the Leaky Cauldron.
What do you think? Still your shout?

Zonko: I'll shout you anytime. I'll meet you in the Leaky Culdron 'bout 7 then? Why a wake for the D.A.D.'s? I loved the first installment!! I'm sure you'd never need inspiration for silliness but, here's a suggestion, try throwing the words crevice, pediatric and (my personal fav asunder, into the next episode. Everything else will full into place around them I promise. Sorry mate, you're not getting out of it that easily, still counting on more episodes and the spoken word performance.

Are you POSITIVE Voldy's wand is made of the same wood as Harry's? (I know I've asked this before but this is my polite way of saying: 'Naaa your wrong'. This global community stuff is teaching me manners *proud tilt of the jaw* )

Patronus's/ Patroni (?) are really interesting aren't they? They seem to be linked to the 'character' of the person maybe even their 'soul'-?- yet also their ancestry - like Harry's-?? Totemic

Dumbledore's patronus? A phoenix is great.

JKR was asked about Snape's patronus and refused to answer..... What do you think? What's Snape's totem?

Buffy: Yes Voldemort and Harry share the same wand. Holly, 11 inches, with a tail feather from Fawkes. There are 3 refernces to the wands in the book. Socerer's Stone in Olivanders Shop when he first buys his wand (I love that shop). In Goblet of Fire when the wands are weighed before the Tri-Wizard competition. After Crouch has been discovered and Harry goes to Dumbledore's Office to relate the story of his battle with Voldemort. Priori Incantatem is the effect caused when two "brother" wands attempt to duel each other. The energy from each wand connects with the other to create a "Mexican Stand-Off." And so...

Delighted to hear that Miss Manners has changed your life. I expect to hear any day now that you are being presented at court. Jolly good Lady Buffybuff. What.

I don't know what shape Dumbledore's patronus would take. In fact there seems to be be no correlation between the wand and the shape of the Patronus if Harry is any indication. We know so much about Voldemort and so much about Harry but JKR has been maddeningly vague about Dumbledore. She's not playing fair.

Dumbledore's patronus could be anything. I would pick a lion if I had to guess. He seems to have a little bit of the nobless oblige in his manner. Snape reminds me of a black panther. I would pick that for his patronus. But then I go back to the fact that nothing about Harry suggests a stag. So here I am--back at square No. 1.

Then I think of the movies. Dumbledore in movies 1 and 2 was excellent. Unfortunately he died. So now we are landed with the second Dumbledore (Irish) who reminds me of an oversized leprechaun. He couldn't scare a rabbit with a meat cleaver and he's supposed to battle Voldemort? (groan) I am told Dumby No. 2 is in the new movie. I can hardly wait.

Ah the Leaky Cauldron. "Hey Barkeep. Another round for the house." My turn to buy.
