I think way too much credence is being give to the prophecy by fans. It is made plain in the books that there isn't fate, there is only our own choices and our own action. The prophecy just serves as a contrast to get people thinking about what free will really means. This is the purpose of the prophecy within the books. I think using to try to determine the way things will happen and the like is futile.

I agree, just becasue it says that one may only live if the other dies it doesn't mean that Harry is definately going to defeat Voldemort or be defeated by Voldemort. Harry could just as die with Voldemort. (which would completely destroy me)

I think you might be missing my point. The prophecy doesn't matter at all (in and of itself anyway).

I know. You are saying that the Prophecy doesn't matter. And you can't predict what will happen by the prophecy because your actions could easily change it.
