yes. Voldy would not have put his soul in just anything or anyone and when he went to kill HP he had not idea that Harry would be any different, or anyone special, than a normal person to kill. Killing Lili was not a special thing for him and he was just going to kill Harry so he would not have made him a horcrux. This is logical. He had no isea Harry was "special" until after the Avada Kadavra curse was performed on Harry. He was too weak to perform any spell that would make another horcrux until he killed the old man caretaker when he made Nagini a Horcrux. I do hope this doesn't sound like rambling.

No, its not rambling, its just what i was hoping for. Its a very logical answer, but what we're thinking is that it was an accident. Just like he didn't mean to give harry some of his powers but he did anyway, the act of murdering his mother and father cause his soul to tear and when he transferred some of his powers, a bit off his soul went with them. Now, thats just what i think could have happened, i dont know about the others. And i'm not even sure myself if he is or not. I just think its a possibility.

I think one has to mean to make a horcrux to do it with a spell/incantation. Otherwise the ring would have already been one by the time of his conversation with slighorn. he had already ripped his soul by then. doesn't he (Voldy) specifically ask about how to do it and slughorn says he doesn't know. So he didn't know how at that point. the ring did not become a horcrux until after that. He had to research and find out how. I don't think eveil magic can be done accidentally. The books don't seem to point that direction to me. to each their own :0

What, specifically, in the books indicates that?

(Nothing about that day was ordinary. Voldemort did not intend any of it.)

Not once in the books have I ever come across evil being done accidentally. That is what indicates it to me and voldy's convo w'Slughorn as well. Slughorn seems to convey that it is a very purposesful thing to do.

But in order to kill Voldy don't they have to destroy the parts of his soul, not give it to a dementor to keep? Unless the dementors destroy them aswell. Is there any evidence of this?
