Hey!! I think it would be interesting to know how you'll got to HP books.
Here's my story: I've always liked reading, since I was a little girl. So about six years ago I was still living in my country (Peru), and I didn't have anything to read at the moment. That day I was going home from college and there was this book kioskouside college and I started to look for something interesting, and then I saw a book called Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal (HP and the sorcerer's stone) with a picture of a boy riding a broom. And I really don't know why but there was something about that title that made me notice the book and want to read it!!

Well I didn't have any money with me at the moment, but I could't forget about the book. I even asked my mom if she had heard about that book, and she told me no, but she told me that if I wanted to read it that Ishould buy it because a book, any book, is always a good companion.
So I did next day andthen I bought the second and the third...
Well guess what, I came to live in the US, and about 3 years ago, and I had never read a book in english
Just about 4 month ago I saw the globet of fire in the store and I wasn't sure wether to buy it or not because as i told you before I'dnever read a book in english in my life. But anyway I bought the book and I read it all and I could'nt stop until I finished The half Blood Prince and now I'm Harry-thirsty for more books!!!!! In english or spanish I don't really care anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in the fourth grade when the first book came out ( I'm a sophomore now) I liked reading but I wasn't really interested in Harry Potter. Until one day my fourth grade teacher starting reading the book to us. she read a chapter or two everyday. Then I started likeing the book and bought it. That is how I meet and started likeing Harry Potter. (sorry for the mis spellings )

Hey guys, why don't you share your story about how you first met harry potter? How did you get to the books? Did you like it at first or not? Is anybody else in your house involved in this "harry mania" as you are? I already told my story.
Nobody else in my house have read the book. However, I have a 2 year old son, and as soon as the next book comes out, Im gonna dress my son in black robes and (probably me too) and go to B&N to wait midnight to buy the 7th book!!! Do you think my son will think that I'm crazy when he gets older???????

I met Harry in year 6, primary school. I'm in yr 9 now and have had many hours of enjoyment (and tears- Dumbledore! Sirius!!!!!!) from the books.
At first I thought 'how dumb can you get? a book about magic! I thought that the books were just a fad, people were just jumping on the bandwagon. So of course I didn't read them. I like to be different.
One day my mum who is a teacher at my old primary school and my music teacher got talking about the HP books and how her daughter really likes them. So my music teacher lent them to mum to give to me and my sister. Told her that it was a waste of time, we wouldn't read them! (can hardly believe it now!)
But one afternoon my sister started to read Philosophers Stone. She came out of her room at dinner time with an astonished look on her face, holding the book.
She said "I never thoought I'd say this, but this is REALLY GOOD!!!!!"
I grabbed the book off her, read the first sentence and was hooked! I was quite happy to addmit I was wrong about Harry Potter.
I bought all the books so I can read them at leisure and my sister loves em too.
The End!

I really enjoyed reading all of yalls stories so I decided to put my own on here. I warn you this will probably be LONG because I tend to babble and include much to many details but here goes anyway...

My 12 year old daughter (9 at the time) is dyslexic and her WONDERFUL 4th grade teacher told me that reading to her would help increase her reading skills. I figured there was no way I was going to read Harliquin Romance crap to her so I asked him (her teacher) if he knew of any good books that would interest kids her age. He told me that he hadn't read any of them himself but had heard great things about some books called HARRY POTTER. He warned me that they dealt with witchcraft but not in the sense that I would think. I was intrigued right then. So, we went to the library eventually and checked out Chamber of Secrets. It was the only one they had in, which should have told me then how good they were but I didn't think of it at the time.

So, we start reading and I couldn't believe how interesting these books were and I just fell for Harry Potter hook line and sinker. We read (I read to her) all of Chamber of Secrets and then started looking for the others. I knew that Chamber was the 2nd book cuz it says so on the binding but I had no idea that it was going to be a series.

I got on the internet and researched Harry and found out there were already 3 books out and 4 more to come! I was very excited about the whole thing. This was something my daughter and I could be interested in and share together. I tried very hard not to read any spoilers about the books on the internet cuz I wanted to find out on our own! It was VERY hard not to peek!

We checked out Sorcerer's Stone (we're in America) and I read it to my daughter to. She loved them as much as I did, it was great! So, after we checked out the first 2 books we started buying them. We read Prisoner of Azkaban together and when Goblet of Fire came out we bought it and I started reading it to her and one night after my daughter went to bed, I read more of the book and put it down on the kitchen bar, the next day while the kids were at school I thought I'd read some more cuz you just can't put them down for long can you? Anyway, I couldn't find the book! When I picked up my daughter from school I asked her if she had it and she did so, I asked her why she took it and she said to me "You read to slow!!!!!". So, she finished the book on her own and has finished all of them since on her own. Remember that she's dyslexic!

They have this program where we live that the kids have to get so many AR (accelerated reader) points and the more points you have the higher you reading grade is. You have to take computer tests about the book you read to get these points so, my daughter wanted to take a test on Goblet of Fire but the Librarian at the school wouldn't let her take the test because it was assessed at a level higher than her reading level at the time. In other words the Librarian thought it was too difficult for her and wouldn't let her take the test unless she got permission from her teacher and me. I had to write a letter to the Librarian giving permission for my daughter to take a test on a book she read on her own! Very aggravating but nothing to do with my story sorry!

Anyway, my daughters reading ability has skyrocketed since she started reading Harry Potter and she doesn't have any trouble at all with her dyslexia in the reading department. Now math is a different story! Maybe JK can write something about witchcraft and math! HA HA!! Anyway, my daughters teachers since then have told me that she learned how to decipher the letters that were mixed up due to her dyslexia by reading the books. She was so interested in finding out what happens and how things turned out that she taught herself to adapt to her dyslexia.

My daughter was so into Harry Potter that we had a Harry Potter birthday slumber party complete with smoking cauldrons, mini flying broomsticks, stuffed owls, and the works.

We have read all the books and even fought over who gets to read them first! I pulled rank on her until Half Blood Prince came out. She was at her Dad's house when it came out and got her own copy! I ordered mine off the internet but it wasn't going to be delivered on the 16th so I had to go buy a copy at midnight! When she read the part where Dumbledore dies she called me crying! I didn't cry, I was in too much shock! She was so emotional about it! I had to keep reminding her that it was just a book, even though I felt like I had been betrayed by a best friend or something. I knew how she felt!

So, all in all I am so thankful that Harry Potter came into our lives and have only JK to thank for improving my daughters life! Literally! Before Harry my daughter had to be in title reading classes ( those are kinda like remedial classes for kids that can't read or comprehend well). She has not been in a title class since we got hooked on Harry. She tested out of the title class she was in when we started Chamber of Secrets at above grade level! Her WONDERFUL 4th grade teacher could not believe her improvment. He now takes his classes to the elementary school to read Harry Potter to the younger kids. Of course they have to get permission from everyone's parents to read them but most parents are smart enough to realize that reading anything is better than reading nothing.

I get so aggravated with people who say stupid stuff like Harry Potter is satanic and JK is a practicing witch and that the number of people involved in witchcraft has tripled since Harry Potter became big and stupid stuff like that because my daughter would still be struggling to even read if it weren't for Harry Potter. And let me tell you, she has not ever tried to perform a spell! Not even on her little sisters! HaHa!

Well, I told you this would be long! Sorry! Thanks for listening!
