surely no one would try to kill Harry after Voldy had failed at godrics Hollow - because they saw what happened to Voldy.

Snape wouldn't have wanted to be there - he loved Lily - remember?

I really don't think that Snape was there that day, but the book don't deny or endorse that idea. That Harry was an accidental Horcrux is proved in the chapter KingsCross Again in DH.
