Because he will instantly become the most hated man in the world.
And who knows how long he will stay that way.
If Dumbledore accidentally dies over the next year,
the most hated status would be forever.
And the immediate risk -- What if they slip and he actually dies that night? [/b]
I thought you said you weren't going to read this thread any more. (?)

Did I? I don't remember. But I'll take your word for it and remove myself.

I like hanging out here, but. I get to hear some good theories in this thread.

Awhile ago I posted a theory someone had on the water in the cave being the Draught of Living Death (if I remember correctly), but I can't find it, so I'll just post this here.

While reading the end of the 6th book again for a completely different reason, I came across a couple of things that seemed interesting, that I don't remember anyone else talking about.

The first thing has to do with the Draught of Living Death...
Here is something I didn't notice before:

HBP, pg 588 :

Dumbledore closed his eyes again and nodded, as though he was about to fall asleep. ". . . of course . . . Rosmerta. How long has she been under the Imperius Curse?"

I think that, coupled with the part where they find Dumbledore at the bottom of the tower lookng like he's sleeping (but for the odd angle of his limbs) is interesting. And all through Dumbledore's conversation with Draco, he seems to be acting strangley, mumbling and pausing, sliding down the wall...I think he's fighting off the sleep.

Anyway, on to the other thing...
I think that it's funny that Dumbledore appears to be harmless when Draco rids him of his wand...Wasn't there something mentioned before about wandless magic [no, I'm not talking about wordless magic], and if so, wouldn't you think that a powerful wizard like Dumbledore would know such magic? In that situation, it seems that he surely could've saved/defended himself, so why didn't he?
[/b]

Okay, a few more things to add....first, the water in the lake being the Draught of Living Death - be pretty fitting, wouldn't it, as the Inferi under the surface are sort of like...the living dead? :P

And the other thing, about wandless magic:
Last night I watched PoA on ABC and I noticed that in the scene where Harry falls off of his broom at the Quidditch match, Dumbeldore does not use his wand to slow Harry's fall...he uses only his hand!

You beat me to it mione, i watched that as well and that is the first thing that came to mind when i read your post. The only problem is: Can we actually trust the movies for the small details like that? I know jkr is being consulted for the major plot points but something as simple as dd not defending himself when he could have used wandless magic doesnt' seem like somthing that would be included in those disscussions. I dont have that book so i cant go and check to see if somthing like that actually happens so could someone do that for me? please and thank you.

I dont think the inferi could be considered the living dead cause somewhere in the book(i'll find it later and edit it in) it says somthing about them not being brought back to life but merely being used as puppets...which, now that i think about it, really means nothing. So, its possible. But what about the stuff in the basin the locket was in? If the draught of living death is the water, whats the green stuff?

Yeah, I don't know if we should trust the movie on that point..but it just really struck me at the time. I'll look in the book, but I don't think it says anything about whether or not DD uses his wand. Nevermind, yes it does...on pg 181, Hermione is telling Harry about what happened and she says, "He ran onto the field as you fell, waved his wand..."
Oh well..

Also, I don't know about the green stuff...

Anyway, I posted this stuff on a MySpace group and people are literally fighting about it...scary. Of course, I did a lot of the fighting in the beginning, lol.

Chapter 9, 2nd-to-last page,
"He ran onto the field as you fell, waved his wand, and you sort of slowed down before you hit the ground..."

Sorry.
