I posted a thread a while ago on the topic of;

"Why James Potter left the invisibility cloak in Dumbledore's possesion before he died, even though Dumbledore doesn't need a cloak to become invisible."

My Possible Answer;

James Potter knew that he would die at the hands of Voldemort, but did not know whether Lily and Harry would. Knowing that the invisibility cloak would be stolen afterwards, he left it with Dumbledore, and possibly old him to give to Harry Someday. Thus giving an answer to why Dumbldore had with no need of using it.

Don;t take my word for it though. i get stuff wrong HEAPS!

This question keeps popping up, and it's just as annoying as ever.
Accidentally leaving stuff as a friend's house is no big deal. It happens.
See the thread, "A Very Interesting Question," in the "Daily Prophet" forum.

Quote:
Book One, Chapter 12:
"Your father left this in my possession before he died.
It is time it was returned it to you. Use it well.
A Very Merry Christmas to you."

Chapter 17:
"Your father happened to leave it in my possession,
and I thought you might like it." Dumbledore's eyes twinkled.
"Useful things... Your father used it mainly for sneaking
off to the kitchens to steal food while he was here."

I think JKR is just yanking our chains again. I see no mystery.
Harry leaves his cloak all over the place -- on the astronomy tower,
behind the one-eyed witch, in the grass near the whomping willow...
The idea that James could leave it with Dumbledore is unremarkable. [/b]

Dude? Shhhh -- don't tell anyone, but I'm a 50-year-old mom. Maybe I should work on my profile.
