In the movie most of the events of Harry's two visits to Hogsmeade are rolled into one just before Christmas, when he and Ron are still talking to Hermione - essentially his throwing snowballs at Draco is added, though, differing to the book, in the movie his cloak never slips off his head so Draco doesn't run off screaming to tell Professor Snape. This latter incident in the book is where Snape sees the map, Lupin gets involved (as DADA teacher) gets involved since Snape thinks the map is the work of dark wizards - Lupin confiscates it.
Of course they needed to get that scene in somehow, so they have it late at night when students are meant to be in bed, Harry looking on the map to see Peter Pettigrew running around the corridors. Harry slips out of bed, and the Snape/Map / Lupin scene plays out then. A scene that isn't in the books, but given that the film makers have to consult JK Rowling on changes I guess it can't detract from the main plot of the movie.

My big question is:
Why didn't Harry see Peter on the Map?

He received the Map from Fred & George on the last weekend before their Christmas break.
Scabbers faked his death around February -- not that it matters -- the Marauder's Map covers Hagrid's Hut.
The day they met Sirius and Peter was on the day of their last exam in June.
In all those months, and he never once looked at Ron? How could he have missed Scabbers?
[/b]

Well, we don't know whter Harry was ever looking at a place where Ron was at that point, or at the common room and dormitories. He would have only seen them there, other than Hagrid's...but he has never looked at that form what we know. But he could have EASILY never looked at Ron on the map.

Um, he did see Peter on the map! Don 't you remember that when Harry was walking around in a dark corridor and he noticed Peter on the map he kept trying to find the person, nut it wasn't a person so he never really saw scabbers.

Also when Harry had to give the map to Professor Lupin he said that there was a mistake on the map because he saw someone on it that was dead. (Peter!)

Um...when he saw Peter on the map...he was scuttling down the corridor. he never saw Ron at that stage. I mean yes...he was in the dormitory and COULD have looked there, but Harry was looking at the castle when he saw Peter.

Lupin should have known that Peter was alive and well and on the Hogwarts grounds at that very moment.

You should always read the first post, at the very least.

If that doesn't make it clear, keep reading. In this case, down to post #5.
