Why Does Snape Hate Harry?

I am a BIG fan of Harry POtter audio-books from the local library, and at the monent i am listening to Book One.
I was listening lastnight to when Harry has had his 1st potions lesson, and cam uo with the theory;

Snape knows that by defeating Lord Voldemort, Harry had possesed some of the Dark Lord's power(s).

He may have realised that because of this, Harry MAY be able to come into Slytherin.

This ties in with whether Snape is a goodie or a baddie, beacuse if he is a baddie, he would have wanted to have Harry in Slytherin so Voldemort could get him easier (coz it was inevitable that WOULD come back, i think)

Long story cut short, Snape hates Harry because he CHOSE to go into Gryffindor, and not Slytherin.

I love the audio books too. Jim Dale is fantastic.


Well, I guess you'd have to think Snape is a baddie for this too work, and I don't think he is.

Snape hates Harry because he hated James. Not only is Harry James' father, he looks just like him and is in many other ways just like him. The primary reason he hated James was his arrogance. Now, Harry is possibly the most famous person in the wizarding world before he even enters Snape's classroom. This probably seals the arrogance of the family line (so to speak) for Snape.

i don't think snape hates harry. i think that snape was buliied so much by james that he hated james and then found out that james' son harry was the one to defeat voldemort that jealousy sprport of formed and i mean come on if you had spent about 12 years in a dungen where every one hates you, you would be a bit jealous of a person whose father had endlessly bullied you!!!

I've heard bits of his too, he is good. Jim Dale is British as well. He's been nominated for a Grammy every time I believe andwon at least once. Check him out if you ever get the chance.

Well actually, i am in New Zealand. But the Stephen Fry one's must be over here to. I love him, he's so good.

Well the reason why Snape hates Harry so is his Dads fault.



But that is in the fifth book and Im not exactly sure if you read so I guess you will eventually!?

I think that the main reason Snape hates James was because he owed him his life, and because of that debt was forced to turn his back on Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Snape could have been a really powerful Dark
Wizard who commanded respect and fear and whenever he sees Harry he is reminded of how much his debt to James cost him. (Also I believe he may have loved Lily and that is another reason for him to hate Harry, because he reminds him that his worst enemy took the woman he loved.)

That is true.

I do read, but i can be slow sometimes. This was one of them.

Might i also add that i am exhausting ALL possibilities, so some of them will sound a bit dodgy or random.
