And they didn't mention the maurader's map until they felt that they were done with it and that Harry's need was greater.

Still, it's strange that they would put everything they had into such a long-shot.

Ron did not even know about the Maurader's Map. I think it was a good guess. (Maybe they could give me the winning lottery numbers huh) Also I still think Harry would of gave them the money seeing Harry could not see himself keeping the money in the light of what happened. Harry knew they wanted to start a joke shop, so I think he would of gave them the gold even if they didn't lose their money in betting.
