Most Ponderable Question of All Time!!!
Why did Dumbledore have James\' invisibility cloak at the time of James\' deathgiven that Dubledore can make himself invisible without a cloak?

This is a VERY interesting question, and hopefully, it will be answered in Book Seven.

Hmm .. I'd say, because James gave it to Dumbledore to give to Harry. Simple enough, right?

That doesn't really make sense though. There's no reason for him to have done that when he could just give it to Harry himself.

James couldn't have given it to Harry because he was dead. Maybe DD just came upon it and gave it to Harry when need be.

What she meant was approx.;
James wouldn't really have given the cloak to DD to give to Harry, because to do that-he would have to know that he was gonna die. And he couldn't have know that, cause if he did, he would have made sure that Lily and Harry were't in the house when Volderemort came.

So I am guessing that DD kniw James had the cloak, and fetched from the house after the event happened.

yeah i agree. sirius might have tipped dd off that wormtail was going to betray lilly and james, so dumbledre could get the cloak.

That wouldn't have happend(the sirius bit.). Cause when Sirius got to the house after Voldermort came, he was stunned and devastated that it had happened, so he couldn't possibly have known about it.

Also, after Sirius had got to the house, Hagrid came. I know this cause Sirius lent Hagrid his flying motorbike so he could get Harry to the Dursley's. Now, where did DD go after they had dropped Harry off? He may have gone back to Godric's Hollow after dropping Harry off, and retreived the cloak then.

Maybe Hagrid Found the cloak when he got Harry. And J.K.R. never mentioned it when he dropped Harry off. Then he gave it to DD.

Chapter 12:
Your father left this in my possession before he died.
It is time it was returned it to you. Use it well.
A Very Merry Christmas to you.

Chapter 17:
"Your father happened to leave it in my possession,
and I thought you might like it." Dumbledore's eyes twinkled.
"Useful things... Your father used it mainly for sneaking
off to the kitchens to steal food while he was here."

I think JKR is just yanking our chains again. I see no mystery.
Harry leaves his cloak all over the place -- on the astronomy tower,
behind the one-eyed witch, in the grass near the whomping willow...
The idea that James could leave it with Dumbledore is unremarkable.

well i think that james had no use of it for when he left the school and gave it to dumbledor who then gave it to harry and if you notice in the two little parts that psyduck left for us up there that it does not say that james wanted to give it to harry he didnt even know he was to have a kid yet so he left the cloke with dumbby and when harry got to the school he gave it to harry casue it was rightfully his in the first place so thats what i think
