The Harry Potter series is drawing to a close. The seventh and final installment is coming and when it does, children, teens and adults alike will gather in bookshops at midnight for the last time. And we'll close our books, knowing as we do that never again will we be able to read a Harry Potter book for the first time.

I don't think that is true. After a few years when you get the urge to read the series again it will be like meeting an old friend. You will remember some but other facts will be brand new, something you may not have noticed the first time around.

I both agree & disagree. Even though I've read the books, multiple times, I notice new things when I re-read them.
But, now I know the the answeres to the major questions, like who dies, ect.

Yes, but that makes you open to recognize other things, you could not see before.

every time you re-read the books, you tend to learn something new or remember something you forgot last time you read it etc.

Thats why its always good to re-read something, you find new things and all, really interesting.

absolutely. I try to re-read the Lord of the Rings trilogy also.
for the same reasons. It is like visiting an old friend.
re-reading is a wonderful thing. I'm currently just flicking through from chapter to chapter as I respond to some of the threads here.

I will re-read it properly though...

Well, we don't know for sure that old Harry is a goner. JKR might just have a change of heart after a good rest.
BUT if she doesn't I agree with GB, I read and reread -- pick up new things as I go. A good book is a good friend that you revisit and go over old stories with time and time again.

I agree, in the sense that for the fans who have followed the series, Deathly Hallows is the end. This era of our lives has come to a close, and though we may revisit it as we look at old pictures, and remember times past, the story is done. We may even see it in new ways, realize things we had missed in hindsight- but we have passed beyond it.

In no way, however, is the Harry Potter saga dead. Its' effects are all around us, it has inevitably become a part of modern culture, and as we ourselves pick up Tolkein or Lewis long after their times, so new generations will discover the wonder of the Harry Potter books.
And they won't even have to wait for the ending.
