| I haven't seen the thread you're referring to, but I obviously see your point. The worst thing about it is that JK Rowling has had it posted on her website for over a year that Dumbledore is, indeed, dead and he will not be coming back to life or anything like that. So why would they argue about it in the first place. The first rule for a story like the Harry Potter series is that the hero will have to face the antagonist alone for the maximum amount of drama. So obviously Dumbledore was going to have to die at some poiunt before Harry made his final showdown with Voldemort. I always thought it would be in the final book, but JK threw me a curve on that one. And if you'll notice, JK also killed off the next best person to help Harry at the start of Book 7. If she didn't kill those people that have the best chance of defending Harry then the reader never really gets that "desperation" feeling that Harry is supposed to be feeling. JK has turned out to be a master story teller. As she says herself on her website, lightning probably will not strike twice, but I still can't wait till she writes something new. Even if it is terrible you can bet that it will sell millions of pre-orders! |
