What's the thinking behind Flood Control?
From the name, I would guess that it's purpose is to
slow things down when a lot of people try to talk at once.

So why does it kick in when I'm the only one here?
It takes so long, I lose my train of thought.

Yeah, I know I hate flood control.

I think that we got it because more and more people get on to this site everyday.
But most of those people have never posted even though they are members, or others have only posted once or twice.
I dont understand why they become members if they aren't going to contribute.

What difference would these more and more
members make if they're not here at the moment?
The question is, "why does it kick in when I'm the only one here?"

It's there so people don't spam.

Also, so people actually post real posts. Not "lol" to every thread.

But I'll check to see what the timing is, because I know how annoying it can be.

Alright.

So I checked it out, and its either no flood control at all, or flood control.

And we have to have flood control.

So we're just going to have to work around it .. type slow, maybe. lol

Typing slow won't help. Typing outside might work.
Minimize the HP club, open a word processor, write what you want, then copy & paste.
I sometimes do that anyway when I want to think a little first.

Could you give special privileges to certain people?
So that, somehow, flood control doesn't apply?
Figure out a definition for "members in good standing."

Question 1: Would the technology allow it?
Question 2: Would you guys allow it?

What I don't get is that flood control kicks in even when I haven't done anything.
I'm reading something, I hit "reply" for the first time that day,
and I get 180 seconds of flood control.

ugh I hate flood control.

Can you try to minimize the time thing on flood control so that we only have it for 60 seconds instead of 180 seconds

I remember when it was only 60 seconds.

good times!
