I think anyone who read the books before seeing the movies would see it your way.
I thought most of the kids were good, and that most of the adults were awful.
I'm just talking about their looks, not their ability to act.

Harry -- good
Ron -- good
Hermione -- wrong hair, but acceptable
Original Dumbledore -- good
McGonnagal -- good
Snape -- good
Trelawney -- Ok
Hagrid -- fair
Filch -- fair
Olivander -- bad
Lockhart -- bad
Myrtle -- bad
Lupin -- bad
Sirius -- unforgivable
Peter -- unforgivable
Dudley -- unforgivable

... shall I go on?

I saw the movies at the same time I read the book. Y'know, halfway through the first book, I went to see the movie. I am captivated by the cover art and will always see Harry and the gang like they're portrayed there.

I forgot to mention MadEye!
What kind of shoot was that?!!!
I need a new catagory, beyond "unforgivable" for the actor alone.
He didn't look like MadEye at all.
And that's before they strapped the fake eye on him.
In these days of techonological wonders, that's as far as their imagine could go?
That alone is proof-positive that they're not even trying.

Yeah, but even though that actor didn't look anything like what I pictured - I REALLY LIKED that actor. He's been in a ton of stuff and he's great. I forgive them for casting him. And Olivander was JOHN HURT!! I can't believe you didn't like him. I haven't seen V for Vendetta but his stomach exploded the first Alien. He was well worth Olivander (and the sorting hat voice).

Their being famous is an excuse for such gross miscasting?
And I notice that you make no excuse at all for the strapped-on eye.
Admit it -- it's a slap-dash, sloppy, careless kiddie movie made
by people who don't care for people who don't know any better.

Psyduck - Did you just say 'slap-dash'?
O.k. I admit it could've been better ESPECIALLY THE STRAP-ON EYE. But I will fight for John Hurt. His brilliant career gives him a manner of near nobility. He is more than worth Olivander.

personally i think its not that important who gets the smaller parts to play. i would have been too happy if they just cast a more realistic actor to play lupin. this one is just tooooooo bad. nothing at all what i imagined. and srius...god i thought someone as orlando bloom will get that part to play, but nope.. some ugly droll they give the role. i really thought they would choose someone that ws more handsme...
sigh.......
