I don't think Hagrid's got the crossbow to fight off wizards. I reckon it's primarily for hunting - he's gotta feed all those weird monsters he keeps breeding - and for threatening magical creatures (centaurs for eg).

What are you thinking PDog? Sounds like you've got a theory as to what the thing can really do.?????
