Re: T.I.R.A.D.E. - stand up on your soapbox There's a threshold of justified coincidence and serenpidity. There waere cases, certainly where Harry got lucky. But, they were balanced with careful positioning by major players- say, Dumbledore's hand in ensuring Harry/Trio could pass through the defenses of the Sorcerer's Stone. Furthermore, there were time when Harry got unlucky too. Put it this way: it's not that people don't get lucky. People find money on the street, win the lottery, get the net ball that just hovers for a moment and lands on the other side to give them the win. It's that people don't find thousands of dollars through hundreds of coins and bills picked up randomly on the street. You don't see people stooping every three steps annoucning they've picked up a before unnoticed hundred dollar bill. People win the lottery, but they don't win it ten times in a row. Peopl get points with lucky shots that could go either way but they don't win the entire match based solely upon those lucky net balls. Harry gets lucky one too many times in DH. And, perhaps most pointedly, he gets lucky on the most important things, on the most crucical moments- it's not that he can't get lucky, it's just rather anticlimatic and contradicting to other trends in the book to think that a significant part of Harry defeating Voldemort was, well, luck. |
