You're so right adwen85. If you'd never read the books how were you supposed to know who mesrs wormtail, padfoot, mooney and prongs were? This is never explained in the movie. Therefore, it is never explained what prof. Lupin's relationship to the map is
or how he knew it was a map! AND as they didn't know this stuff, how were the poor sods, who never read the book meant to figure out the significance of Harry's stag Patronus??
The bridge in the movie is where Lupin and Harry have
that conversation about Harry's parents . You know,
that conversation where Lupin looks off into the sunset and gets all deep and intraspective and says stuff like: 'your mother was a remarkable person. Not just an incredible witch...' AND then says: "Lily could see beauty in others even before they could see it themselves" and "Your mother was there for me when there was no-one else to talk to". Though obviously adoring of Lily, Lupin says cryptic stuff about James like 'He broke the rules'. If you really listen, he isn't complimentary at all about James. This scene on the bridge, IN THE MOVIE ONLY, is what sparked the theory that Lupin loved Lily and this theory was the launch pad of my 'Lupin loved Lily
and was a Voldemort spy' theory - see other postings for the full discussions on those theories. I'm really sorry, but I can't track down where the big long discussion of all this stuff is posted.
Here's a brief summary of 'the bridge discussion = Lupin loved Lily' theory:
JKR has said that there are 2 things that happen in the movie ONLY (ie. not in the book of PoA) that the director put into the movie and, by doing this, the director INADVERTENTLY gave away things that are gonna happen later in bks 6&7.
One of the things that happened ONLY in the movie and NOT IN THE BOOK, was the whole Hermione saying "werewolves only recognise their own kind" in the DADA class and then, later, Hermione howling to distract were-Lupin (Prof. Lupin as a werewolf) from attacking Harry.
The second thing that happened ONLY in the movie PoA, that didn't happen in the book, is the whole
'scene on the bridge' between Harry and Lupin. The buzz on the chat rooms is that this scene shows that there was more to the love story of James and Lily AND that Lupin was at one time separated from his friends ("no-one else to talk to") and Lupin had a special relationship with, maybe even loved, Lily. (pls. look at mugglenet.com and/ or the Leaky Culdron for details of this discussion).
We have discussed these and heaps of the other theories - like Ron is the Gryffindor heir because he roared like a lion when he ate a magical lolly in the movie and that Draco will die because Hermione was feeding Buckbeak dead ferrets (Draco wasa a ferret once) and that Fudge will die because a crow landed on his head in the movie .... - but I can't remember where they are posted... sorry, I've looked and looked! Anyway, that's the significance of the bridge; it's just one of many theories vying to be one of the two things that happened in the movie and not in the book of PoA, that will foreshadow
something that
might happen later......... ............ Good luck
