I didn't know that the Potters had a cat either. But like Luna said if crookshanks was animagus it would work. Look at wormtail he was a rat for 12 yrs..."uncommonly long life for a garden rat"....so if crookshanks was the Potters cat and an animagus it would work. Just a thought.
