What's not to get? At first, Harry's learning a bunch of stuff about James, then he starts learning, if possible, even more about Lily?
Didn't you notice the way, in the chapter "The Prince's Tale", on the Hogwarts Express, he didn't get nearly as excited about James as he would have if there had never been a parent transition?
