The idea
Hermione is studying for her PhD (Doctorate) degree. In order to pass, she has to prepare a huge essay/thesis/assignment on a topic of her choice.

The thing is - her topic has to be submitted and approved before she can start studying.

The subjects can be Magical or Muggle.
