Whatever else he might be, Slughorn was intelligent enough to read the signs and to be afraid. | I think this is it more than anything. He'd gone to significant trouble to alter his memory so that no one else would know. Whether or not Voldemort even cared about Slughorn, we don't know. BUT Slughorn THOUGHT Voldemort cared. |
