There are some obvious connections JKR made to WWII, (Dumbledore vs.Grindelwald 1945) BUT she had much more in her mind than that. Otherwise she could have made the connections much more direct. |
If you look carefully, Voldemort's designs for the future mostly seem to resemble the South African Apartheid more than anything else. The wizard community was a minority. He wanted to establish rulership of this minority over the majority muggle population. Almost, if not exactly, what happend in the Africas. Looking at it from the point of view of the Spanish and Aztecs would also work, I think.
