Moody's death too was shorouded in mystery. If Harry hadn't found that eye, we may never have known that he was actually dead. Who knows, maybe he was still alive and they just removed his magic eye so that he couldn't see through everything. It is sad to think of the ignominy in death of some of JKR's central characters.
