He was the prisoner in the tower, that Voldemort went to for the wand, although Grindelwald lied and said he hadn't had it- but I think Voldemort killed him anyway. The scene Harry sees as they are in Malfoy Manor is of Voldemort flying, and interrogating Grindelwald.
